He calls hackers innovators and that it is not a learned behavior, rather a "mind set". He calls this "hackschooling". He believes educators should focus more on creating innovators, students that are given space and freedom to be creative. I really want to implement more opportunity in my science classroom for students to be given more choices so they too can implement their own creativity into the science curriculum.
Logan is a very articulate, bright child that is spreading a very important message to educators and parents: make being both happy a healthy a priority in your classroom, a priority as a family and as a lifestyle. I definitely try to always look at the positive aspect of life. I understand and value the importance of being happy and healthy as both a mother and educator. He said, a shift in education needs to be focused around "making a life versus making a living". And within that life the child (or adult) must be both happy and healthy and really, that's all anyone (parents, teachers, etc) should want from their kids.

The new phenomenon is that we can all get an education online now if we really know how the maneuver the Internet. This young man is obviously very articulate and will go far in life. He appears to be someone who can think through new situations. Isn't this what we really want for our students. There may well be better ways for us to teach. I think it's a matter of we as teachers exploring new options and creating new curriculum to keep our classes exciting and keep our students in inquiry mode.

Great presentation! I really connected with what he had to say about education. The education someone would receive through the principles he talks about could really create an amazing generation. I don't see where any traditional standards can fit into this system, it would be very difficult to complete an entire years worth of US history following the hackschooling principles. Perhaps that is the way we should go, how much do students remember from a highschool history class? Do they remember the content or the moments they enjoyed most? I believe the content learned during their favorite moments in the class is what students will remember. So why not try to make every learning moment their favorite!
